GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF CAMP PROGRAM
Course
Description
A 66-hour course as certified by the Oregon Dept. of Public Safety Academy,
The Washington State Patrol Academy, and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Training
Facilities. This is basically an 8-week basic Academy Class that has been crammed
into a week made up of 16 hour days, with residence at the Police Academy. Enrollment
is limited to 10th,11th,and 12th grades that are excellent students, and are
recommended by either Kiwanis Clubs, High School Counselors, or their respective
Law Enforcement Agencies. No Student is rejected as far as race, color, or ethnic
back ground, or ability to pay. A background check will be run through all available
law enforcement agencies, with the students and Parent/Guardian permission.
This is due to the fact that no one can become a certified law enforcement officer
with a criminal background.
Course Objective
The objective is to orientate young people tending towards the Law Enforcement
Community, and what is to be expected of them. This program is slanted towards
finding the best possible applicants for Law Enforcement positions that will
appear in the future for them. We feel that by providing the excellent Cadre
Staff we have, who are very dedicated sworn law enforcement officers and definite
role models in all aspects of life, they will gain full insight into a very
fulfilling profession. Living in this controlled - professional atmosphere for
their very full week will definitely establish whether or not they will continue
their venture into Law Enforcement. The additional objective is to find very
qualified people who are rarely found, to be excellent law enforce officers,
and to stay with their communities, and their agencies. The community cost of
training and outfitting a law enforcement officer is quite extensive. We are
attempting through this program to eliminate those who would leave for any other
reason other than natural retirement.
